What the Promotion Pack does
Promotion Pack takes the achievements, feedback and extra responsibilities you've recorded in your Career Passport and organises them into a structured case for promotion. Rather than trying to remember six months of good work the night before a meeting, you draw on evidence you've already logged over time, and the tool arranges it around what the next role actually requires.
It highlights where your recorded evidence already demonstrates work above your current level, and where the case is thinner — so you go into the conversation knowing your genuine strengths rather than guessing. It also generates a short written summary you can take into the meeting, plus a set of likely questions or objections your manager might raise, so you're prepared rather than caught off guard.
Everything in the pack comes from evidence you've recorded yourself. If your recorded evidence doesn't yet support a strong case, the tool tells you that honestly and points to what kind of evidence would strengthen it, rather than dressing up thin evidence as more than it is.
Who it is for
- Anyone who feels ready for the next level and wants to make a clear, evidenced case rather than a vague request
- People who've been putting off asking for a promotion because they're not sure how to structure the conversation
- Employees who've taken on extra responsibility informally and want to show its real impact
- Anyone preparing for a scheduled appraisal or review where progression will come up
- People who've asked before and been told to bring back evidence
- Managers preparing their own case for a step up, not just staff below management level
- Anyone who struggles to remember or articulate their achievements under pressure in the moment
How it works, in three steps
Step 1
Gather your recorded evidence
The tool pulls together achievements, feedback and extra responsibilities you've already logged in your Career Passport, so you're working from a real record rather than memory alone.
Step 2
See your case mapped against the next role
Your evidence is organised against what the next role typically involves, showing where you already have strong support and where the evidence is currently thin.
Step 3
Get a meeting-ready summary and prompts
The tool produces a short written summary to bring into the conversation, along with likely questions or objections to prepare for, so you go in ready rather than improvising.
An example, start to finish
What a member has recorded over time
- Covered supervisor shifts twice in the last two months when the usual supervisor was off, with the team hitting targets both times.
- Led the retraining of the team on a new till system after a software update.
- Direct feedback from a manager: "You handled that complaint really well, better than I would have expected."
What the tool produces
- A structured evidence summary grouped under headings like "Leading others", "Taking initiative" and "Direct feedback received", each with the recorded date and outcome.
- A one-page meeting summary combining the strongest two or three examples into a short script you could actually say out loud.
- A flag noting that you have strong evidence for covering supervisor duties, but nothing yet recorded on budget or rota planning — often expected at the next level up — with a suggestion to start recording that if the opportunity arises.
- A short list of likely questions to prepare for, such as how you'd handle a specific escalation, based on typical expectations of the next role.
The pack only ever reflects evidence you've actually recorded — it won't invent a budget-planning example you haven't done, it will simply flag that gap so you know it before the meeting.
Why people use it
Evidence over memory
Building your case from things you recorded at the time is far more reliable than trying to recall achievements under pressure the night before.
A structure that matches the next role
Seeing your evidence organised against what the next level actually requires helps you focus the conversation on what matters.
Spot gaps before your manager does
Knowing where your evidence is thin lets you decide how to address it honestly, rather than being caught out by a question you hadn't prepared for.
A summary you can actually use
A short written page to bring into the meeting keeps you on track and gives your manager something concrete to refer back to.
Preparation for objections
Likely questions and pushback are flagged in advance, so you're not thinking on your feet in the moment.

Frequently asked questions
- What if I haven't recorded much evidence yet?
- The pack will work with whatever you've recorded so far and tell you honestly where the case is currently thin. It's worth starting to log achievements now, even small ones, so you have more to draw on when you're ready to ask.
- Will it invent examples if my evidence is limited?
- No. It only ever uses evidence you've actually recorded. Where a typical requirement for the next role isn't covered, it flags the gap rather than filling it with something invented.
- Can I use this for a formal appraisal as well as an ad hoc conversation?
- Yes. The structured summary works for both a scheduled appraisal and a conversation you request yourself, since either way you're presenting the same kind of evidence.
- Does the tool tell me if I'm not ready for promotion?
- It will show you honestly where your recorded evidence is strong and where it's currently limited against what the next role typically involves, so you can judge readiness for yourself rather than being told a definitive yes or no.
- How far in advance should I start using this?
- Ideally weeks or months before the conversation, so you're recording evidence as it happens rather than trying to reconstruct it later. The pack is more useful the longer you've been logging evidence.
- Can I edit the summary before I bring it into the meeting?
- Yes. The generated summary is a starting point — you can edit the wording, reorder examples, or remove anything you'd rather not raise before using it.
