Achievement Builder

Most people describe their job as a list of duties rather than a set of achievements, which makes a CV look thin even when the work behind it was substantial. Achievement Builder takes what you actually did — the situation, the action, the result — and turns it into a clear, evidence-led line you can use on a CV, application form or LinkedIn profile.

What the Achievement Builder does

Achievement Builder asks you a small number of plain questions about something you handled at work: what the situation was, what you did about it, and what changed as a result. There is no requirement to have a job title like 'manager' or to remember exact percentages — the tool works with whatever detail you genuinely have, including rough numbers, timeframes or simple before-and-after comparisons.

From your answers, it drafts an achievement statement in the kind of language CVs and applications expect: specific, active, and outcome-focused. It will not invent a statistic you did not give it, add a customer number you never mentioned, or claim a result you did not describe. If you only have a qualitative outcome ('customers stopped complaining about wait times'), it will write it that way rather than making up a figure.

You can generate several achievements from the same period of work — one from a busy shift you handled well, another from a process you improved, another from a colleague you helped train — and store them all so they are ready to drop into a CV, application form, or interview answer whenever you need them.

Who it is for

  • Anyone who has never written a CV achievement and is not sure what counts as one
  • People whose job title undersells the responsibility they actually carry
  • Retail, hospitality, care and warehouse workers whose CVs read as a list of duties
  • People preparing for a promotion conversation who need concrete evidence, not vague confidence
  • Anyone applying for a role that asks for 'examples of achievements' on the form
  • People returning to job hunting after time away, who have forgotten how to describe their own work
  • Members building up a bank of evidence to reuse across several applications

How it works, in three steps

  1. Step 1

Describe a situation in your own words

Tell the tool, in plain language, about something you handled — a problem, a busy period, a change you made, or a task you took ownership of. No CV language needed at this stage.

  2. Step 2

Add the action and the outcome

Explain what you actually did and what happened afterwards, even roughly. The tool prompts for detail you might otherwise leave out, such as who was affected or how long it took to sort.

  3. Step 3

    Get an evidence-led achievement line

Achievement Builder turns your answer into a clear CV-ready line, built only from what you told it. Edit it, save it, and reuse it across CVs, applications and interview prep.

An example, start to finish

What a member typed in

  • We kept running out of a few popular items on the shop floor because nobody was checking stock properly before the weekend rush.
  • I started doing a quick stock check every Friday morning and flagged the gaps to the manager before the delivery cut-off.
  • We stopped running out of those items most weekends after that, and my manager asked me to keep doing it.

What the tool produced

  • Introduced a weekly Friday stock check to catch gaps in popular lines before the weekend rush, flagging shortfalls to the manager ahead of the delivery cut-off.
  • Reduced weekend stock-outs on key lines by identifying and addressing the root cause: a missing pre-weekend check.
  • Took ownership of the process going forward after the manager asked me to continue it, showing trusted judgement beyond my formal role.

The tool did not add a percentage or a headline figure because none was given — it built the achievement from the real detail provided.

Why people use it

Turns duties into evidence

Instead of 'responsible for stock', you get a specific line showing what you noticed, what you did, and what changed.

No invented statistics

The tool only ever works from what you tell it, so you can use the result without worrying it overstates your experience.

Works from memory, not metrics

You do not need exact figures to get a strong achievement — rough outcomes and honest before-and-after descriptions are enough.

Builds a reusable evidence bank

Save each achievement once and reuse it across CVs, application forms, LinkedIn and interview answers.

Useful beyond the CV

The same achievement lines work as STAR-format interview answers and as evidence in a promotion conversation.

Your information and your privacy

  • Anything you describe stays attached to your own account and is not shared with employers or third parties without your action.
  • The tool generates content only from what you enter — it does not pull in or invent details from anywhere else.
  • You can edit, delete or rewrite any saved achievement at any time.
  • You choose which saved achievements go into any CV, application or export.

Frequently asked questions

What if I don't have exact numbers for what I achieved?
That's fine. Achievement Builder works with rough outcomes and honest descriptions, not just figures. If you only know that something improved without a precise percentage, the tool will phrase it that way rather than guessing a number for you.
Will it exaggerate what I actually did?
No. EarnedStory only generates content from evidence you have recorded yourself, so the output stays within what you described. You should still read and edit each result to make sure it feels accurate before you use it.
I've never had a management job title — can I still use this?
Yes. Many strong achievements come from people without a formal title who still noticed a problem and did something about it. The tool focuses on your action and its effect, not your job title.
Can I use the same achievement for different applications?
Yes. Once an achievement is saved, you can reuse and lightly adapt it across multiple CVs, application forms and interview answers, so you are not starting from scratch each time.
How is this different from just writing a bullet point myself?
Most people underdescribe their own work because it feels ordinary to them. The tool asks specific prompts about situation, action and outcome that surface detail people usually leave out, then phrases it in the way CVs are read.
Can I turn an achievement into an interview answer too?
Yes. Because each achievement already captures situation, action and outcome, it maps directly onto a STAR-format interview answer, which you can develop further using the STAR Interview Builder.
