CV Builder
CV Builder takes the evidence you have already recorded on EarnedStory — your roles, achievements and skills — and turns it into a complete, properly formatted CV. Choose from four printer-safe templates, tailor the content to a specific job advert, run a quality review before you send it, and export whichever format the employer or application system needs.

What the CV Builder does
CV Builder pulls together the work history, achievements and skills you have already recorded in your Career Passport and lays them out in a clean, professional structure. You are not starting from a blank page or trying to remember how to phrase a role from three jobs ago — the content comes from evidence you have already provided, and the tool focuses on organising and presenting it well.
You can tailor a CV to a specific job advert by pasting in the advert text; the tool highlights which of your recorded skills and achievements are most relevant and helps you reorder or emphasise them accordingly, without inventing experience you do not have. Before you finish, a quality review checks for common issues such as inconsistent dates, missing contact details, overlong sections or wording that reads as vague rather than evidence-led.
Once you are happy with it, export your CV as a PDF, Word document or plain text (useful for pasting into online application forms and applicant tracking systems). Every version you create is saved, so you can keep a general CV alongside job-specific versions and come back to update any of them as your experience grows.
Who it is for
- Anyone who has recorded achievements and skills on EarnedStory and now needs a CV to send out
- People applying for several similar roles who want a base CV plus tailored versions
- Job seekers unsure how to lay out a CV that reads cleanly on screen and in print
- Anyone worried their current CV lists duties instead of evidence
- People applying through online systems that require plain text or Word rather than PDF
- Members who want a second pair of eyes, in the form of a structured quality check, before sending applications
How it works, in three steps
Step 1
Pull in your recorded evidence
CV Builder draws on the work history, achievements and skills already saved in your Career Passport, so you start from real content rather than a blank template.
Step 2
Choose a template and tailor to a job
Pick one of four printer-safe templates, then optionally paste in a job advert so the tool can help you prioritise the most relevant achievements and skills for that specific role.
Step 3
Review and export
Run the built-in quality review to catch formatting and wording issues, then export as PDF, Word or plain text. Every version is saved so you can return to it or build another from the same evidence.
An example, start to finish
What a member had recorded
- Achievement: Introduced a weekly Friday stock check to catch gaps in popular lines before the weekend rush, reducing weekend stock-outs.
- Skill: Trained two new starters on till procedures and store opening checks over their first month.
- Job advert pasted in: a supervisor role emphasising stock control, staff training and weekend cover.
What the tool produced
- A tailored CV with the stock-check achievement moved into the top bullet of the most recent role, since it directly matched the advert's emphasis on stock control.
- A skills section reordered to lead with staff training and stock management, matching the advert's priorities.
- A quality review flag noting a missing employment end date, resolved before export.
The tool reordered and emphasised existing evidence to match the advert; it did not add any achievement, skill or figure that had not already been recorded.
Why people use it
Built from your own recorded evidence
Your CV content comes from achievements and skills you have already entered, not generic filler text.
Four printer-safe templates
Choose a clean layout that reads well both on screen and when printed, without tables or graphics that confuse applicant tracking systems.
Tailored to the job, not generic
Paste in a job advert to prioritise the most relevant parts of your evidence for that specific role.
Built-in quality review
A structured check flags common issues — inconsistent dates, missing details, vague wording — before you send your CV out.
Export in the format you need
Download as PDF, Word or plain text, so the file suits an employer's inbox, an online form, or an applicant tracking system.
Saved versions for every application
Keep a general CV and tailored versions side by side, and return to update any of them as new achievements are recorded.

Frequently asked questions
- Do I need to write my CV content from scratch?
- No. CV Builder uses the achievements, skills and work history you have already recorded in your Career Passport. If you have not recorded much yet, tools like Achievement Builder can help you capture that evidence first.
- Will tailoring to a job advert change what my CV says happened?
- No. Tailoring reorders and emphasises your existing, recorded evidence to match what the advert is looking for. It will not add an achievement, skill or figure you have not already recorded.
- Which file format should I export?
- Use PDF for most email applications, Word if an employer specifically asks for an editable document, and plain text when pasting into an online application form or a system that may struggle with formatted files.
- What does the quality review actually check?
- It looks for common CV problems such as inconsistent or missing dates, incomplete contact details, sections that run too long, and wording that reads as vague duty description rather than evidence-led achievement.
- Can I keep more than one version of my CV?
- Yes. You can keep a general CV alongside job-specific tailored versions, and every version is saved so you can return to update it as your experience grows.
- Are the templates suitable for printing as well as online applications?
- Yes, all four templates are printer-safe, using clean layouts without tables, text boxes or graphics that can print poorly or confuse applicant tracking systems.
